Best Hot Chocolates In Delhi to Warm Up With
Hot chocolate is surprisingly popular in Delhi. Most people think because it’s India it must be hot all year round, but Delhi is in the north, and it’s cold in winter. So if you find yourself in Delhi this winter, these are the best hot chocolates to keep you warm.
1. Savorworks Coffee & Chocolate Atelier

This was the best hot chocolate I had in Delhi, and one of the best I’ve had anywhere in the world. It was perfectly balanced in taste and texture and was delicious.
Savorworks are chocolate experts. They source their own beans and take great care in the fermenting and roasting to ensure optimum flavour. They handmake chocolates on site, and you can buy bags of chocolate pieces to make your own hot chocolate at home.
They also do excellent coffee, especially nitro and cold brews. And they sell gourmet pastry.
Location: Masjid Moth Market, Greater Kailash II

2. Hashery

Hashery offers 8 types of cocoa, 20 spices, 10 flavours and nearly 20 toppings. The possibilities are endless, and will keep you returning to try new customized cocoas.
I really enjoyed being able to customize my hot chocolate, and for that reason this is one of my most favourite hot chocolates in Delhi.
For anyone daunted by the number of choices, there are several specialty hot chocolates on the menu, like Gimme S’more and Raspberry Blondie.
The Connaught Place shop is small but cozy, the GK II location is newer and more of a cafe vibe.
2 Locations: Middle Block B, Connaught Place & GK II Market
3. Coast Cafe

Coast Cafe is mostly known for its delicious South Indian food, and the hot chocolate is something of a local secret. It’s rich and flavoured with cinnamon and sea salt, served with an excellent biscotti.
If you’ve been exploring Hauz Khas Fort, Coast Cafe is a great spot for a meal and hot drink after.
Location: Above Ogaan, Hauz Khas Village
4. Chocolateria San Churro

This neighbourhood cafe is a favourite in the area, consistently serving delicious Spanish style hot chocolate. This is not your average milky cocoa – the hot chocolate here is thick and rich, like liquid pudding.
Chocolateria San Churro has 5 hot chocolates to choose from, including a mocha version with espresso and one with ice cream. As their name suggests, they do make and sell churros, the perfect accompaniment for a thick cup of hot chocolate.
Location: GK2 M Block Market, Greater Kailash II
5. Fabelle Chocolate

Fabelle is a chocolate boutique, kind of like the Versace of chocolate shops. Because the shop is tucked away in the one of Delhi’s best 5 star hotels, the ITC Maurya, it’s a bit of an insider secret.
Fabelle’s hot chocolates are excellent, and they offer unique varieties. My favourite is the spiced hot chocolate infused with Indian spices, but the milk cocoa with pistachio almond nougat chunks sounded delicious too.
Make sure you see the painted vaulted ceiling in the ITC Maurya lobby – it’s a famous piece of Indian art work.
Location: ITC Maurya Hotel, South Delhi
6. Sardar-Ji-Bakhsh

Sardar-Ji-Bakhsh is an Indian coffee house that also makes terrific hot chocolate. I had the Nutella hot chocolate (it was really good). There’s also classic hot chocolate and thick hot chocolate.
You can customize your hot chocolate with almond or soy milk, a selection of syrups like hazelnut, Irish cream and caramel, or a shot of expresso and a scoop of ice cream.
There’s now quite a few locations around Delhi. I like the Lajpat Nagar shop.
Multiple locations
7. Colocal Chocolate Factory and Cafe

This is serious hot chocolate, which comes in percentages of cacao: 55%, 66%, 72% and 85%. For non-purists there is banana hot chocolate, caramel hot chocolate and smoky campfire hot chocolate.
Chocoholics will adore this place. Colocal is India’s first cacao roaster and they make their own chocolate right there on the premises. All the chocolate used in their desserts and chocolate drinks comes from their own factory.
Colocal is a very good cafe too, and it’s pet friendly. I’ve been to both locations, but I prefer the quiet and more spacious Dhan Mill Compound location.
2 Locations: Dhan Mill Compound, Chhatarpur & Khan Market
8. Cafe Dori

Cafe Dori uses Callebaut 100% Belgian dark chocolate and the result is one of the best hot chocolates in Delhi. Rich and frothy, dusted with cocoa powder and topped with a toasted marshmallow, this is serious hot chocolate.
It’s a beautiful, industrial style cafe that allows pets in their outdoor space. There’s even a menu for dogs. This is one of my favourite spots to come around Christmas time.
Location: Dhan Mill Compound, Chhatarpur
9. PAUL

PAUL makes a traditional hot chocolate (the PAUL hot chocolate), but my favourite is the Chocolate Viennois which is topped with loads of real whipped cream. They also serve a chocolate latte which is milk based and not as heavy.
The French bakery has a couple of locations in Delhi, and the one at Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj consistently serves excellent quality food and drinks.
2 Locations: Ambience Mall Vasant Kunj & Select Citywalk in Saket
10. Di Ghent Cafe

If you end up in the Delhi suburb of Gurugram, this is one of Delhi’s best cafes. Di Ghent Cafe serves European style food and drinks in a lovely setting.
The Belgian hot chocolate at Di Ghent Cafe is a real treat, and easily one of the best hot chocolates in Delhi NCR. Plus they have a fantastic breakfast menu – waffles, French toast and croissants.
Location: Cross Point Mall, DLF Phase IV, Gurugram
11. Theos

Theos is one of Delhi’s best bakeries, and many locations have cafes that serve hot chocolate.
There are several varieties including hazelnut hot chocolate and mochaccino. But I’m a traditionalist and always get their pure Belgian hot chocolate made with chocolate truffles.
Multiple locations across Delhi NCR
12. Ladurée

The iconic French patisserie famous for their macarons has one location in New Delhi and a smaller shop in Ambience Mall, Gurugram. They serve a fabulous European style hot chocolate which you can order with Chantilly cream.
The Khan Market location is the nicest. It has a street level shop and beautiful restaurant upstairs.
Location: Khan Market, Delhi
13. Perch Wine & Coffee Bar

Perch Wine & Coffee Bar is one of Delhi’s most popular cafes, and a favourite of those who want to work from somewhere other than home.
The hot chocolate here is creamy, not overly thick and served with slices of cake, which in my opinion automatically elevates it to one of the best hot chocolates in Delhi.
4 Locations: Khan Market, Saket, Vasant Vihar and GK II
14. Choko la

Choko la is an Indian brand, fine chocolate shop that specializes in everything chocolate. They sell chocolate bars, cakes and desserts and make hot chocolate to order.
This was one of the best hot chocolates I’ve had in Delhi. It was the perfect consistency and sweetness – rich and decadent but not overly so.
I also love that you can buy boxes of their hot chocolate mix and make it at home.
4 Locations: Khan Market, Vasant Kunj, Saket and Delhi Airport
My Own Recipe for the Best Hot Chocolate in Delhi
If you don’t want to go out for hot chocolate in Delhi, why not make one of the best yourself?
Here’s my personal recipe for hot chocolate, and the magic ingredient that helped me get through a Delhi winter with no central heating.
Indian Hot Chocolate
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp sugar or jaggery
- pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 or 2 tsp milk
- 3 tbsp Old Monk rum (optional)
Heat milk over medium heat until almost boiling (don’t let it boil over).
While the milk is heating up, stir cocoa powder, sugar (or jaggery) and cayenne pepper together in mug with 1 or 2 tsp milk very briskly. It should be thick and pasty. Keep stirring vigorously for about 30 seconds.
Pour hot milk over cocoa mixture in mug and stir gently to blend. Add the Old Monk rum now if you are using it.
How to Get to the Places with the Best Hot Chocolate in Delhi
I always recommend using Delhi’s excellent metro system to get around the city. It’s fast, cheap and easy to use.
I take the metro to the closest stop by my destination, and then either walk, or take an auto rickshaw right to wher I’m going. There are always auto rickshaws waiting outside metro stations.
Uber is also very good and cheap in Delhi. I use it a lot.
