A Delhi summer can be stifling. I know people who book overnight stays at Delhi hotels just so they can use the swimming pool. Most of us can’t do that on a regular basis, so here are some options.
Best Swimming Pools in Delhi for Visitors
The majority of swimming pools in Delhi are either operated by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), located in private clubs, or attached to luxury 5 star hotels.
DDA pools require a temporary membership, while hotel pools are the easiest for visitors because they offer day passes.
Keep in mind hours, policies and rules can change without notice. I recommend you contact the facility to confirm you can still swim there before heading out.
Pubic Swimming Pools in Delhi
Most of these pools are for serious swimmers, but there are a couple that are kid friendly and more leisure focused.
1. Siri Fort Sports Complex
South Delhi’s premiere sports complex is the pool of choice for many locals and expats. It’s one of the few year round swimming pools in Delhi.
The 50 metre pool was refurbished in 2023 and features an tensile roof cover, giving it ample shade while still being outdoors. Lanes have to be booked in advance.
Full membership and 3 month temporary memberships are available. In either case, a membership application and doctor’s certificate for swimming are required before joining. It’s operated by the DDA.
2. DDA Sports Complex, Saket
DDA Sports Complex in Saket is another very popular sports centre. The Olympic size pool is covered, and open in summer (April – September).
Visitors can purchase a 3 month temporary pass for the pool. Temporary membership forms and a doctor’s certificate must be completed. Lanes must be booked in advance.
3. CWG Village Sports Complex
This sports centre was built as a training facility for athletes during the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
It’s an excellent and popular complex with a 50 metre, covered swimming pool and toddler pool. The only drawback is that it’s in East Delhi.
Like all DDA pools, you’ll have to complete temporary membership and pool application forms with a doctor’s certificate.
4. Pacific Sports Complex, Lajpat Nagar
This pool is popular with locals in Lajpat Nagar, especially for swimming lessons. It’s not run by the DDA, so you can book it by the hour.
Standards may not be as high as the DDA pools in terms of maintenance and cleanliness. It’s an outdoor, Olympic size facility that gets very busy in the evenings, so try to go earlier.
5. Khajan Singh Swimming Academy
This South Delhi swimming pool is popular with local families and new swimmers. It can be booked by the hour. The pool is outdoor with no cover, so make sure you have sunscreen.
It’s best to go earlier in the day as this pool gets very busy on weekends and evenings. A one-time coaching lesson is required as well as doctor’s certificate to use the pool.
6. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Swimming Pool Complex (SPM)
This is primarily a competition facility, but is open to swimmers who want to train. It’s another one that is open all year round.
It’s well maintained by the Sports Authority of India, and was one of the venues during the 2010 Commonwealth Games. It’s next to one of Delhi’s lovely parks, Talkatora Gardens.
It features two 50 metre pools and diving facilities. Before getting a membership swimmers must pass a swimming test. Monthly passes are available.
7. Yamuna Sports Complex
This sports complex is in East Delhi and features an Olympic size pool. Lanes must be booked in advance.
It’s run by the DDA, so you’ll need to complete membership forms (full and temporary memberships are available) and a pool use application with doctor’s certificate. The pool is open February 1st to November 30th.
Hotel Swimming Pools in Delhi
Some 5 star hotels offer day passes to visitors who are not guests of the hotel. These are great for a leisurely pool day.
8. Hyatt Regency Delhi
Non-guests can buy a day pass to use the gym and swimming pool at Delhi’s Hyatt Regency. The hotel is conveniently located in South Delhi. I’ve visited this hotel many times, the pool area is very nice.
There’s a lovely outdoor cafe by the pool, and the Hyatt has one of the very best bakeries in Delhi, Sidewalk. So indulge yourself while you’re there.
9. Shangri-la Eros New Delhi
Another lovely outdoor pool suited for a leisurely day of swimming and lounging about. I’ve swum at this pool and it’s great for laps and relaxing after.
The Shangri-la Eros is located in the Diplomatic Enclave, very central. It’s a perfect location if you’re staying in South Delhi.
The hotel offers a monthly pool pass for non-guests which includes use of the gym and sauna. It’s expensive, but this is one of Delhi’s very best hotels.
10. Radisson Blu Hotel, Paschim Vihar
If you’re looking for a spot to relax by a pool for a day, this Radisson Blu is a great choice. Visitors who are not staying at the hotel can purchase a day pass.
The swimming pool is located on the roof top and has panoramic views of Delhi. You can relax on the loungers and enjoy a light meal or drink from the poolside bar.
11. The Suryaa New Delhi
This hotel is located in South East Delhi near one of the most famous temples in Delhi, the Bahai Lotus Temple.
Non-guests can purchase a day pass to use the swimming pool. It’s a great option for a hotel pool where you can just sit around and swim at leisure. Plus it’s one of the more reasonably priced day passes.
12. Courtyard by Marriott, Gurugram Downtown
Technically this pool is not in Delhi, it’s in the suburb of Gurugram, but since so many expats and visitors stay in this area it’s worth listing.
Visitors can purchase a monthly pass for the swimming pool, which is pretty reasonable compared to the fees at other hotels. This is a 5 star property, so pool maintenance, cleanliness and services are top notch.
Swimming Pools at Private Neighourhood Clubs
Some affluent neighbourhoods in South Delhi have their own private clubs for residents, and some have swimming pools.
13. Neeti Bagh Club
This is a private neighborhood club primarily for owners and tenants living in the Neeti Bagh Colony.
It’s a nice, small club with a 33 metre swimming pool. Temporary memberships of up to one year are considered. You’ll have to complete the application form and wait for approval.
14. Gulmohar Centre
This is another private neighbourhood club with a swimming pool.
Gulmohar Centre offers temporary membership to tenants living in Gulmohar Park. So if you’re living in Gulmohar Park and can get a member to vouch for you, it’s a very convenient option.
