22 Best Bakeries in Delhi for a Sweet Tooth

If you have a sweet tooth and are craving European or Western style cakes and pastry, you are in luck! I love pastry and have visited numerous bakeries in Delhi in search of the best ones.
My all time top 3 bakeries in Delhi:
- L’Opera: French style pastry made with local, fresh ingredients
- Lavonne Cafe: French style pastry from the renowned pastry arts school
- Defence Bakery: great assortment and terrific neighbourhood bakery
Delhi has many excellent bakeries and patisseries. I have personally visited and tasted bakery items at every single one of these (except all the online bakeries).
Not every bakery made the list. I didn’t include any bakeries where it was obvious they used artificial flavours or ingredients. One thing I detest is fake whipped cream!
The Best Bakeries in Delhi
These really are the best bakeries in Delhi. Even though I don’t live in Delhi anymore, I return each year for months and still frequent these bakeries.
1. Ladurée

Ladurée is as close as you can get to authentic Parisian pastry in Delhi.
Macarons are flown in directly from Paris, and even though the pastries are prepared in Delhi, the ingredients are flown in from France. The Delhi bakers were trained by Ladurée’s French chefs.
The famous Parisian patisserie has two locations in Delhi NCR. This is one of the most expensive bakeries in Delhi but the macarons and pastries are incredible.
Khan Market (full cafe upstairs) and Ambience Mall Gurugram (kiosk only)
2. L’Opéra

This is a French patisserie and they specialize in viennoiserie, pastry, eclairs and macarons.
Personally, I think L’Opéra is excellent and just as good as Ladurée, but less expensive since everything is made in Delhi with mostly local ingredients. There’s even some gluten free options. All shops have cafes which serve light meals.

3. Lavonne Cafe

Bangalore’s most famous pastry shop has finally graced Delhi with a location. Bakery items are prepared at the Delhi Lavonne Academy of Baking Science and Pastry Arts, one of India’s top pastry schools.
The French style patisserie and croissant are outstanding. The petite cakes are among the best I’ve had anywhere – not just Delhi. I’ve also tried the whole grain bread and croissants. All are terrific.
You can order full meals, including breakfast, but what Lavonne does best and is most famous for is pastry.

4. PAUL

The PAUL kiosks have pastries and viennoiserie imported directly from France. This is the only place in Delhi to get truly authentic French croissant, eclairs, millefeuille and tarts.
There’s also an assortment of quiche, pizza and sandwiches which are excellent. I’ve been eating at PAUL in Delhi for years, and everything is always delicious.
PAUL is a really good cafe (the breakfasts are amazing), and each cafe has a bakery kiosk. You’ll find PAUL in many of Delhi’s best shopping malls.

5. Theos

Theos consistently serves up excellent quality and delicious cakes, pastry, breads, cookies and ready-made sandwiches. You cannot got wrong with anything from Theos – everything is good.
Most locations are in Noida (a suburb of Delhi), but there’s a kiosk at Sangam Courtyard in New Delhi and a full bakery/shop at Cyberhub in Gurugram.
Most locations are not dine in, but the Sector 41 Noida and Cyberhub Gurugram locations have cafes with very good food.

6. Defence Bakery

This is my favourite all-around bakery. They have it all: breads, fancy pastry, donuts, cookies, snacks, whole cakes and seasonal treats.
Before Easter Defence Bakery was selling hot cross buns, Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies. The hot cross buns were amazing – exactly like I would get in the UK or Canada. I love their Christmas baked goods too.
Several locations in South Delhi
7. Big Chill Cakery

Big Chill Cakery is the dessert side kick of one of Delhi’s favourite cafes, Big Chill Cafe.
Styling itself as an English bakery, they sell all kinds of cookies, tarts, pies and cakes. They’ve got a great selection and quality is good.
Currently there’s only one Delhi proper location, in Khan Market, but if you’re out in the suburbs, Gurugram and Noida both have locations.

8. Maxim’s

This is one of the best bakeries in Delhi to buy fresh bread. They have a large selection, including gluten free options. Maxim’s also sells traditional pastry, whole cakes and cookies, but bread is their specialty.
Maxim’s has been open since the 1960s. It’s one of the oldest bakeries in Delhi, and in a way it’s a miracle it survived those first 30 years. Traditional boulangerie did not really appeal to the mass Indian palate, though that has changed over the years.

9. BreadTalk

BreadTalk is a Singapore/Chinese brand that now has several bakeries in Delhi, Gurugram and Noida.
Many of their breads and desserts have an Asian twist, like Japanese cheese cake and Taiwanese sweet buns. They also have a good assortment of savoury baked goods and sandwiches.
I’ve been to a few locations and the selection can vary depending on the size of the store, but the quality is always excellent.

10. Sibang Bakery

If you love Korean food, you won’t be able to resist Sibang Bakery. This Korean chain has a couple of locations in Delhi, and all the Korean favourites are here: red bean donuts, sausage buns, white bean paste buns, as well as different cakes, cookies, donuts, breads and sandwiches.

11. Theobroma

I’ve been a fan of Theobroma brownies for years, back when they were only in Mumbai. It was an ecstatic moment for me when they opened a Delhi location in 2017.
These days Theobroma sells pastry, croissants and whole cakes, but this company became famous for its brownies and that is still what they do best.

12. Bread & More

This cozy neighbourhood cafe/bakery has a great selection of cookies, pastry, whole cakes and macarons. It’s a local favourite for coffee and a quick bite.
It’s not on the level of the best French bakeries in Delhi, but still very good in terms of selection, quality and price.

The Best Hotel Bakeries in Delhi

Because the Hyatt Regency Delhi is the site of the weekly expat Delhi Network meeting, and the food is supplied by the bakery, I’ve sampled just about everything Sidewalk makes. It is all delicious and excellent quality.
While you’re there, check out the artwork in the hotel public spaces. The Hyatt Regency Delhi has a fantastic collection.
15. The Oberoi Patisserie & Delicatessen – The Oberoi

The Oberoi is one of India’s very best hotel brands, and the patisserie is also five stars. They have a wonderful selection of French cakes, desserts, breads, pastry, pies, macarons and chocolates.
The bakery kitchen is inside the patisserie and glassed in, so you can see the chefs at work. The space doubles as a delicatessen and they prepare excellent sandwiches on house made breads.
16. Nutmeg Gourmet Shop – ITC Maurya

Delhi’s premiere luxury hotel has a wonderful bakery offering a selection of cakes, pastry, viennoiserie, savoury pastry and quiche. There’s a quiet seating area attached to the bakery – probably one of the most subdued areas in the entire hotel.
The ITC Maurya is famous for its collection of Indian art. The lobby and main foyer have an impressive collection including Krishen Khanna’s The Great Procession which took 4 years to complete.
If you’re craving a hot chocolate to go with your pastry, Fabelle has a chocolate boutique on the main level and they make one of the best hot chocolates in Delhi.
The Best Online Bakeries in Delhi

Paris My Love uses many ingredients sourced from France and the results are exquisite.

Cafe Monique bakes to order beautiful French cakes, tarts, quiches, and classic French cookies like madeleines and macarons.
Cafe Monique’s executive chef Maxime Montay grew up in Reims, France. He learned the art of French pastry by working at the family bakery in France. In fact, many of Chef Maxime’s creations are inspired by his grandmother’s recipes, for whom the patisserie is named.
20. Tuileries Pâtisserie
Tuileries Pâtisserie‘s chef and founder Kamal Arora trained in patisserie at the famed Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France. Her specialty and signature desserts are bright and bold entremet cakes featuring seasonal ingredients.
Chef Kamal found a way to bring classic French pastry to a largely Indian clientele by giving her patisserie a bit of twist with bright colours and local fruits. Also available are cookies, savoury tarts and small cakes.
21. Miam Pâtisserie
Miam Pâtisserie offers viennoiserie, macarons, pastry, cakes, savoury pastry, dry cakes, tea cakes, they even sell a custom dog cake. There are gluten free options.
