12 Best South Delhi Hotels (2026): Hand-Picked by a Local
Before I moved to Delhi, I often stayed in South Delhi hotels. I still visit them regularly even though I don’t live in Delhi full time anymore. I’m going to recommend the best ones for you.
In Delhi where you stay matters. Not only in terms of being near the attractions and sites, but because of safety. South Delhi is the best area – it’s greener, more affluent and safer. It’s also where most of the sites are.
Whether you want to splurge on a luxury hotel or stay somewhere budget-friendly, South Delhi has a wide range of accommodation. You’ll be able to find the perfect hotel to suit your needs.

These are my preferred South Delhi hotels. All of them are known for superb service, good location and receive excellent guest reviews.
- Leela Palace New Delhi (luxury): Delhi’s most luxurious and beautiful hotel. An exceptional property in the Diplomatic Enclave. Beautiful location in the greenest part of New Delhi and easy to explore all the sites from.
- Taj Mahal New Delhi (luxury): Another exceptional 5 star hotel. I think this is the best located of all the luxury South Delhi hotels. It’s in the exclusive and very green Lutyens’ Delhi, within walking distance of Khan Market and Lodhi Garden. Really good for solo travellers.
- The Oberoi New Delhi (luxury): Oberoi is one of India’s best luxury hotel brands. Their properties are exceptional. The Oberoi New Delhi is gorgeous and has the cleanest air in Delhi (state of the art clean air technology). The location is not as walkable as Leela Palace or the Taj Mahal, but the views are better.
- Sheraton New Delhi (luxury): This is a really good hotel if you want to be closer to the business section of South Delhi. It’s not as luxurious (or expensive) as the ones above, but still a 5 star hotel. It’s within walking distance of two of Delhi’s best shopping malls (lots of restaurants and shops), and the metro. Still very good for exploring Delhi.
- Lutyens Bungalow (mid-range): Lovely boutique heritage property. Excellent location beside Lodhi Garden. This is a quiet part of South Delhi and the guest house has a large garden frequented by peacocks. Rooms are simple, but comfortable and clean with private bathrooms. Breakfast is included.
- Bungalow 157 (mid-range): Perfect guest house if you want extra space. Each floor has 3 guest rooms with ensuites, a common living room and kitchen. Book one guest room, two or all three and have the whole apartment to yourself. Located in upscale Defence Colony within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Breakfast is included.
- Colonels’ Retreat (mid-range): Bed and breakfast located in tree lined South Delhi neighbourhood of Defence Colony. Breakfast (included) is on the lovely rooftop terrace. They’re famous for their breakfast – everything is homemade including the breads and jams. Very convenient location for exploring Delhi.
- Bnineteen (mid-range): A really nice guest house in a very historic part of South Delhi, near Humayun’s Tomb and Sunder Nursery. The neigbhourhood itself is walkable and very green, but to get to most of the sites or the metro you will need an auto rickshaw. It’s close to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, you may hear trains at night.
- Home@F37 (budget): A small hotel in South Delhi that is great value. It’s on a busy street in one of Delhi’s better neighbourhoods, very close to popular GKI M Block Market (lots of shops and restaurants). To reach most sites you’ll need to take an Uber or the metro, which is within walking distance.
- Prakash Kutir Bed & Breakfast (budget): One of Delhi’s most popular guest houses. Book this one well in advance. It’s in Hauz Khas, a very good area with lots of sites only a short auto rickshaw ride away. There’s a neighbourhood market within walking distance with lots of restaurants and shops. Super clean, family run and a home cooked breakfast included.
- The Neem Bed & Breakfast (budget): This is one of Delhi’s best regarded guest houses. It’s not as central as some of the others, but it’s just behind GK I M Block Market with all sorts of restaurants and shops, and you can easily go anywhere by auto rickshaw or metro. Breakfast is included.
- Tatvamansi Homestay (budget): This South Delhi homestay hotel is amazing value. Rooms are large, comfortable, and there’s a common kitchen for cooking. Nice location overlooking a park and easy to explore the rest of Delhi from. Just be aware this usually quiet neighbourhood gets busy and noisy during the festival of Durga Puja in October.
How to Get Around Delhi
The best ways to get around Delhi is by metro, Uber, auto rickshaw, or any combination of these.
The Delhi metro is really good – don’t be nervous about using it. And auto rickshaws are everywhere and super convenient. Uber is also good in Delhi, and very cheap.
